Quite simply, the church premises are made available for people to have an appointment with God, as part of a chain of continual prayer for a 24 hour period.  We prepare three or more designated spaces for these purposes and try to keep the building quiet for the whole period.

Prayer watches are times when individuals, couples, teams or small groups can sign up for one or more hour slots.  The time can be used for personal intimacy with the Lord or you may pray for the church or others.

There are churches all over the world that have started with 24 Hour Prayer Watches and seen such a difference in the life of the church that they have migrated to weekends (or longer periods) of continual prayer. This movement has taught that there is something good that happens in their churches when prayer is offered up in this way.  It is a different form of corporate prayer.  The church family is praying “together” but not physically at the same time.  When you arrive you know that there are many who have gone before you or will be following you.

This “sacred space” can have a wonderful impact on your ability to pray.  Prayer is more than talking; it is listening or even simply experiencing the presence of the Lord.   Often we have precious little opportunity to “descend into silence,” to simply be with, and experience, the Lord’s presence.  Experience has shown that often the hour flies by and some now schedule more than one hour because of the richness of the experience.

If you have not participated before, please try it and see.  It is a time of refreshment, not duty.  It will do your soul good – and you may be surprised how much of a community experience it turns out to be!
